Background to The Enchanted Tree

My inspiration for The Enchanted Tree came out of disappointment and despair when looking locally for presents, for my daughter and her friends, of affordable toys, books and gifts that were both inspiring and ethical and finding very few. So i resolved to do something about it !
When I found out that The Old Post Office was available to let, I jumped at the chance to open a shop in the centre my own community, the village of Weyhill. Although I have only lived here for a relatively short time, I have found everyone to be incredibly welcoming, with a real sense of community spirit. Although the village has been split by two major roads, A343 and A303, it still has the feeling of a village and has a variety of fetes, fairs and festivals throughout the year. The Fairground Craft Centre, The Weyhill Fair pub, Pink Olive Indian Restaurant and a newly opened Organic Farm shop and now a Toy shop, make this an increasingly popular village to visit by people from the surrounding area and villages.
With free parking and everything you need for children's presents without having to go into town, together with the quality of the products and the ethos behind them, this has proved to be a popular combination with parents.

Our product slogan is: Toys and books that will inspire and teach your children about the world.
Inside The Enchanted Tree, you will find a range of unusual and interesting new toys and gifts from the UK and the rest of the world. A lot of which are handmade and all are from sustainable, organic or recycled materials.
The books are created with the illustrator and author working together to produce a beautiful mix of art and story, taking inspiration from different cultures, with themes that encourage independence of spirit, enthusiasm for learning and embracing the worlds diversity. These are all printed on recycled paper.
So we hope that these toys and books will, as well as being enjoyable, inform and teach children about the world we live in and inspire them to want to learn more.
These products are sourced via a combination of fair trade and locally based suppliers and we actively search for smaller organisations and family run businesses, which allows us to offer a range of products not found in mainstrean toyshops and superstores. By supporting these suppliers, we are both encouraging diversity and, in the case of fair trade, helping a community in poorer parts of the world to survive. We also try to give information in the shop about the suppliers and charities we are working with and supporting. We are also trying to stay in regular contact with the manufacturers and co-operatives in poorer communities to see what effect the trade is having on their lives. Eventually we would like to visit these people and bring back photos and information to display in the shop, to show our customers the good they are doing by buying our products.
I have also added an interactive table so children can have fun trying out some of the toys, instruments and books. There are also pencils and paper so any budding young writers or artists can come up with some of their own designs for books and toys of the future ! (Which means that mun and dad can look around the shop while the children are occupied)

Hope to see you at the shop soon,
Sarah
